Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Service and Repair

Return Ring With Spiral Spring(from 07.97on),removing And Installing

CAUTION:  On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone
Control Module prior to disconnecting the vehicle battery. Switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting the vehicle battery.

CAUTION:

Note safety specifications when working on airbag.

Steering wheel and return ring with spiral spring can only be removed with wheels in straight-ahead position.

-

Remove airbag unit.

-

Removing steering wheel or with sport steering wheel.

-

Remove trim for steering column switch.

-

Disconnect connector - 1 -.

-

Disengage latch (arrows) and remove return ring with spiral spring from steering column switch.

CAUTION:  Return ring with spiral spring must not be turned in removed condition.

NOTE:  The return ring with spiral spring is secured with a tie wrap in center position as a new part.
