A8 Quattro Sedan V8-4.2L (AUX) (2001)
Fluid - A/T: Testing and Inspection
The ATF level -3- is correct if, at an ATF temperature of 30 - 45°C (86 - 113°F) for normal temperature areas or for hot regions: 50°C (122°F), there is
still a slight escape of fluid through the filler plug hole -2- (the oil rises when it is heated).
Test Requirements
-
Transmission not in "mechanical backup" mode
-
ATF temperature no higher than 401C (1041F) at start of testing
-
Selector lever in "P" position
-
Engine running at idle (closed throttle position)
-
A/C and heat off
-
Vehicle standing on level ground
NOTE:
^
Only ATF with the designation ESSO LT 71141 (color: clear yellow) can be added.
^
Additives cannot be used.
^
Checking the ATF level when the temperature is too low will lead to overfilling.
^
Checking the ATF level when the temperature is too high will lead to under-filling.
^
Overfilling or under-filling the ATF impairs the function of the transmission.
CAUTION: Part numbers are listed here for reference only. Always check with your parts supplier for the latest information.
CAUTION: Always wear safety glasses.
