Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

NOTE: The following special tools and testing equipment are necessary for this work:

3384 - Pressure piece
^
VW 401 - Thrust plate
^
VW 402 - Thrust plate
^
VW 412 - Thrust disc
^
VW 681 - Extractor lever
^
VW 415 A - Tube
^
32-109 - Driving sleeve
Removal
-
Remove left drive flange refer to Removing/Installing. See: Front Final Drive, Automatic Transaxle/Service and Repair

Remove circlip (arrow -A-) for ball bearing.

Place left drive flange bracket on pressure plates VW 401 and VW 402 and press drive flange out of bracket using thrust disc VW 412.
CAUTION: Hold the drive flange with one hand to prevent it from falling.

Pry sealing ring out of bracket using lever VW 681.
