Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Replacement

WARNING:  The flanged bolt must be loosened only with the vehicle standing on  its wheels. Otherwise, there is risk of accident 

Removal 

-

Pull cap off disc wheel using suction cup 3208. 

-

Loosen flanged bolt (item -2- in illustration below). 

-

Remove wheel. 

-

Pull ABS wheel speed sensor a small distance out of swing arm (steering knuckle). 

-

Remove drive axle bolts -1-. 

-

Remove flanged bolt -2-. 

-

Push inside end of drive axle forward while pulling outer CV joint out of wheel hub. 

-

Remove drive axle. 

NOTE:  To remove the right drive axle, slide the inner end rearward while pulling the outer CV joint out of the wheel hub. 

  
Installation 

-

Install drive axle in swing arm (steering knuckle). 

-

Connect inner CV joint to transmission, tighten bolts. 

Tighten to: 77 Nm (57 ft lb) 

-

Press wheel speed sensor into swing arm (steering knuckle) to stop. 

-

Install flanged bolt. 

Tighten to: 200 Nm (148 ft lb) plus additional 1/4-turn (90°)
