Differential: Service and Repair
Drive Pinion and Double Seal

NOTE:

On the left side of the intermediate flange there is an inspection hole for detection of oil leakage from the double sealing ring in the drive pinion
and the double sealing ring in the intermediate flange.

The following special tools are necessary for this work:

3403 - Thrust piece
3403/1 - Additional ring for thrust piece 3403

Removal

-

Remove distributor gear refer to Transfer Case Service and Repair.

-

Remove front final drive intermediate flange.

-

Pull drive pinion off output shaft carefully.

CAUTION:  Gears which have fallen to the floor cannot be re-installed The transmission must be replaced

Drive double sealing ring out using suitable mandrel.

Installation

-

The sealing ring is installed in reverse order of removal. In addition, the following work steps have to be carried out.

Slide additional ring 3403/1 onto thrust piece 3403.
Slide double sealing ring onto thrust piece 3403.
Drive double sealing ring in to stop using thrust piece 3403 (with additional ring 3403/1 installed).

NOTE:  The contact surface -A- of the thrust piece must contact the additional ring 340311. This additional ring must, in turn, contact the
drive pinion -B-.
