Wheel Bearing: Removal and Replacement

Wheel Bearing Housing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque wrench (40-200 Nm) (VAG 1332)

‹› Torque wrench (VAG 1576)

‹› Pliers (T40067)

Removing

During the disassembly, make sure no pressure points form on the air spring damper boot.

Place the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels ] See: Steering and Suspension/Suspension/Service
and Repair/Procedures/Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels.

Remove the drive axle bolt. Refer to => [ Drive Axle ] See: Axle Shaft Assembly/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Front
Suspension/Drive Axle.

Disconnect the electrical connector - 1 - from the speed sensor and remove the wire from the bracket - arrow -.

Remove the brake caliper and secure it to the body using wire.

Remove the brake disc.

Press the track control arm ball stud out of the wheel bearing housing (the nut stays loose on the ball stud). Refer to => [ Track Control Arm ] See:

Press the guide link ball stud out of the wheel bearing housing (the nut stays loose on the joint pin). Refer to => [ Guide Link ] See: Steering and
Suspension/Suspension/Radius Arm/Service and Repair/Guide Link.

Remove the bolt - 4 - and nut - 5 -.
