iPod performs a reset and restarts itself

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

Automatic iPod upgrade via iTunes contained inoperative driver software. Since a downgrade of the iPod software is usually not possible, the AMI
driver software (firmware) has to be updated in the vehicle. Since the iPod is usually updated automatically, the customer may complain that nothing has
changed but AMI suddenly does not function properly.

Tip: The firmware update of AMI is not a Zug Software update! Unlike the Zug Software update, which is performed with an Update CD in the CD
changer, the firmware update is performed with a USB device, connected directly to AMI.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

New AMI firmware is installed in MY2009 vehicles after the VIN range.

SERVICE

The following devices are necessary to perform the driver software update and verify the operation:

^ Common USB stick, without any data already stored.

^ USB adapter cable to connect the USB stick to AMI.

^ Access to www.accessaudi.com to download the AMI driver update to the USB stick. The customer's iPod and his iPod adapter cable for verification.

Performing the AMI firmware update via USB device

1. Access ServiceNet on accessaudi.com and download the AMI firmware file AMI_update_080423.bin to a common, empty USB stick.

The file can be found by selecting Special Tools and Equipment in the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the page.

2. Verify sufficient charge of the vehicle battery (voltage> 12.2V) and maintain the charge, if necessary.

3. Switch on the MMI system and select AMI as the active Audio source. To do this, select CD/Aux >> Source >> Audi music interface.

4. Remove the iPod adapter cable, if applicable, and connect the USB adapter cable to AMI. When connected, insert the USB stick with the stored bin
file.
