Drive/Propeller Shaft: Procedures
Radial Run-Out at Flange/Driveshaft, Measuring and Marking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Dial Gauge Holder (VW 387)
‹› Dial Gauge
‹› Bolt M10•30
‹› Always measure radial run-out if flange has been removed. Remove old paint marking and make new marking.
‹› If a new driveshaft is to be installed and the factory colored mark on the rear final drive flange is no longer visible, determine the position of the
maximum run-out (corresponds to the maximum distance from the rotational axis) and mark it with a colored dot - arrow B -.
‹› This colored dot - arrow B - is opposite the colored dot on the driveshaft - arrow A -.
‹› Radial run-out can be measured with rear final drive installed.

Attach the measuring tools to the rear final drive with the bolt - A - (M10 x 30).

Position the dial gauge on the ground diameter - arrow - in the driveshaft flange and set to "0" with 1 mm of pre-load.
