Camshaft Oil Seal: Service and Repair

Removal

NOTE:

Left side: 2 oil seals, 1 shaft seal

Right side: 1 oil seal, 1 shaft seal

1. Remove ribbed drive belt and camshaft timing belt.

2. Remove left and right camshaft sprockets.

3. Drive out shaft seal with drift tool No. 2056, or equivalent.

Installation

1. Install seal flush with front edge of belt guard.

Note:  If one shaft seal is leaking, always replace seals on both sides.

2. Align camshaft sprockets.
3. Install camshaft timing belt.

4. Clean sealing surfaces on rear of belt guard and on cylinder head.
5. Replace oil seal.
6. Apply thin coat of AMV 174 003, or equivalent, to oil seal.
7. Install belt guard.
