Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair

NOTE:

During removal and installation procedures, refer to the component location illustration above and component notes below.

Seals and gaskets should always be replaced.

All of the components shown on the illustration can be removed and installed with the engine installed.

Component Notes And Information

Oil Seal, Oil Pump Drive

Bolt, tighten to: 10 Nm (89 inch lb)

Bolt, tighten to: 80 Nrn (59 ft lb)

Bolt, tighten to: 35 Nrn (26 ft lb)

Bolt, tighten to: 10 Nrn (89 in. lb)

Circlips

Plug, tighten to: 5 Nm (26 ft lb)

Oil Retention Valves

Replacing, refer to Replacement. See: Engine Lubrication/Service and Repair

Removal

1. Remove ribbed drive belt and camshaft timing belt.
2. Remove vibration damper.
3. Remove oil seal using seal remover tool No. 3203, or equivalent.
4. Install oil seal over sleeve tool No. 3202, or equivalent.

5. Using vibration damper mounting bolt, press in seal with sleeve until flush.

NOTE:  If the crankshaft sealing surface shows signs of wear, press in the oil seal until it is fully seated.

Installation

Reverse procedure to install.
