Combination Switch: Service and Repair

WARNING!

Airbag system components must only be checked, removed, installed and/or repaired by qualified Service Department personnel

Before starting work on any parts of the airbag system, disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap. When reconnecting the Ground
strap, the passenger compartment must not be occupied.

Always refer to airbag system safety precautions. 

CAUTION!

Before working on the electrical system:
-

Determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.

-

Switch the ignition off.

-

Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.

Removing

-

Disconnect battery Ground strap.

-

Turn front wheels and steering wheel to straight-ahead position.

-

Pull adjustable steering column out as far as it will go and set to lowest position.

-

Using Torx: T30 bit, remove screws for airbag unit from left and right sides of back of steering wheel.

-

Tightening torque: 7 Nm (62 in.lb.)

-

Carefully pivot airbag unit toward front.

-

Disconnect harness connector from rear of airbag unit and place airbag unit facing up.

-

Remove two screws -8- and carefully pull out upper half of steering column trim -1-.

-

Disconnect electrical connector for spiral spring.
