Wiper Switch: Service and Repair
Electrically Adjustable Steering Column Switch

WARNING!

Airbag system components must only be checked, removed, installed and/or repaired by qualified Service Department personnel

-

Before starting work on any parts of the airbag system, disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap. When reconnecting the Ground
strap, the passenger compartment must not be occupied.

Always refer to airbag system safety precautions.

Removing

-

Disconnect battery ground (GND).

-

Turn steering wheel and front wheels to straight-ahead position.

-

Pull adjustable steering column out as far as it will go and set to lowest position.

-

Using Torx T30 bit, remove screws for airbag unit from left and right sides of back of steering wheel.

-

Tightening torque: 7 Nm (62 in.lb.)

-

Carefully pivot airbag unit forward.

-

Disconnect harness connector from airbag unit and place airbag unit facing up.

-

Remove two screws -8- and carefully pull out upper half of steering column trim -1-.

-

Disconnect electrical connector from spiral spring.

-

Remove nut -12- (secures steering wheel -11-) and remove steering wheel.

-

Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ft.lb.)

CAUTION:  When removing the steering wheel, the spiral spring must not be unwound from its middle position.

-

Remove screws -5- and -6- and Torx screw -9-.

-

Remove lower steering column trim -7-.
