Condition

Power steering hesitates/causes noises.

Service

Check the screen -arrow- inside power steering oil reservoir (look through opening for cap).

Note:

Top of reservoir has been removed (cut away) for illustration purposes (screen is shown out of place).

If screen is loose (out of place):

-

Install new reservoir Part No: 4E0 422 371N.

If condition has been eliminated:

No further repairs are necessary. 

If screen is not loose:

-

Check power steering components for anything unusual, such as poor fluid quality, leaks, restricted hoses, twisted hoses, hoses in contact with metal
body parts, etc.

Ensure power steering reservoir has proper fluid level. Make any necessary repairs.

If condition still exists:

-

Replace power steering hydraulic pump (see Repair Manual Group 48 - Steering "Power steering pump, removing and installing")
