Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque wrench (40-200 Nm) (VAG 1332)

‹› Ring spanner insert AF 21 mm (VAG 1332/7)

‹› Ball joint puller (T40043)

Removing

-

Place the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels ] See: Service and Repair/Procedures/Positioning

Remove the wheel covers, remove the cover cap on light alloy wheels (removal hook in vehicle tool kit).

Remove the wheel.

-

Secure the brake disc with a wheel bolt.

-

Remove the guide link nut from the wheel bearing housing far enough so that it is flush with the ball stud threads.

-

Counter hold the ball stud using a 6 mm hex wrench. Shorten the hex wrench to do this, if necessary.

Press the guide link ball stud out of the wheel bearing housing using the (T40043).

‹› Be careful not to damage the Constant Velocity (CV) joint boot in the process!

‹› Make sure that both (T40043) lever arms are parallel to each other when using greatest force.

‹› Prevent the (T40043) from falling down.

-

Disconnect and remove the guide link from the subframe.

-

If the guide link is installed again, remove the locking compound from the ball joint threads first.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

Tighten the bolts/nuts on components with bonded rubber bushings by hand. Raise the wheel bearing housing to tighten the bolts/nuts. Refer to =>
