Tie Rod End: Service and Repair
Tie rod end, removing and installing
Removing

Remove wheel.
^
Loosen and remove bolt -1-.
Tightening torque: 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.)
Note: Instead of a bolt, a protective cap may have been installed.

Remove hex nut -5- and remove bolt -2-.
Always replace self-locking nut
Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
Note: The slits in the wheel bearing housing must not be widened using a chisel or similar!

Press away tie rod end downward.

Loosen hex nut -3- and remove tie rod end.

Hexal edge -4- at axial joint is used for counter-holding

Tightening torque: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)

Degrease tie rod end and clamping hole at wheel bearing housing.
Installing
Installation is in the reverse order of removal
Vehicle must be aligned after installation:

Checking vehicle alignment, Refer to Alignment Description and Operation.

First tighten tightening nut -5- to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)

Tighten hex bolt -1- to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.)
