Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Overhaul

NOTE:

Constant velocity (CV) joints are packed with grease G-6, or equivalent.

When replacing the joint boot, grease joint again if necessary using the following table.

CV Joint Diameter:

Inner, 108 mm ( 4.25 inch) 
Outer, 98 mm (3.86 inch) 

Total amount of grease:    

Inner, 120 g (4.2 oz) 
Outer, 120 g (4.2 oz) 

Grease in  joint  

Inner, 35 g (1.2 oz) 
Outer, 80 g (2.8 oz) 

Grease in boot:

Inner, 85 g (3.0 oz) 
Outer, 40 g (1.4 oz) 

Component Notes And Information 

NOTE:  During service procedures, refer to the component location illustration above and component notes below.

Circlip
-

Remove and install with standard commercial circlip pliers

Gasket
-

To install, remove protective film from adhesive backing and adhere to joint

Inner CV joint
-

Outer diameter 108 mm 

-

Replace as complete part only

Pressing off, refer to Fig. 1, below.

Pressing on, refer to  Fig. 2, below.

Greasing, see note above
