Camshaft: Testing and Inspection

Camshaft axial play, checking
Special tools and equipment:
-
Dial gauge bracket VW 387
-
Dial gauge
Checking procedure:
-
Remove camshaft.
-
Remove valve roller lever.
-
Install camshaft without drive chain and secure with bearing caps 2 and 4.
-
Install dial gauge bracket VW 387 on cylinder head.
-
Press camshaft by hand against dial gauge and zero dial gauge.
-
Press camshaft away from camshaft.
-
Read measurement.
