Air conditioner housing, removing and installing

NOTE:

As of November 2000, production will be switched gradually to a revised A/C housing (version "2"). Several components have been
changed on this A/C housing, compared to version "1".
The version "2" A/C housing can be identified from the outside via the coolant lines to the heater core for heater.
When removing, mark the different actuator motors and the respective connectors between flap and motor (danger of swapping with the
connectors of other actuator motors).
If connectors are swapped, the actuator motors with the incorrect connectors do no reach their specified end position, and the malfunction
"adaptation limit exceeded" will be displayed in DTC memory after basic setting.

Discharge A/C refrigerant system.   See: Service and Repair

Cover driver and front passenger seat with protective covers.

-

Switch ignition on and press the "Def" button on -E87- (air flow of air conditioner to windshield, flaps for instrument panel air outlets closed).

Position power-operated seats so that the securing screws for the center console are accessible.

Before disconnecting the battery, determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.

Caution:

On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone
Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery
After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power
windows according to repair manual and/or owner's manual
After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-on the emergency (back-up)
battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module

Switch ignition off and disconnect battery ground strap

Remove instrument panel with center console and instrument panel mounting complete   See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding /

Remove control module for airbag   See: Relays and Modules/Relays and Modules - Restraint Systems/Air Bag Control Module/Service and
Repair

Remove bracket -A-.

-

Remove cover with air flow flap.

-

Disconnect all air guides to the air conditioner housing.

Remove cowl panel and windshield wipers complete

-

Remove reinforcing plate (plenum).

-

Release pressure in cooling system by opening cap to coolant reservoir, drain cooling system into a clean container.

WARNING! The cooling system is pressurized when the engine is warm Wear gloves and other appropriate protection, and slowly and

carefully release system pressure, if necessary, before performing repairs.

Unplug connectors to the pump valve unit.
