Supersedes Technical Service bulletin Group 91 number 08-108 dated November 11, 2008 for reasons listed below.

TIP:  
This technical solution only applies if all conditions are met simultaneously.

-

The MMI High navigation is inoperative, and the message Navigation not available is displayed.

-

The navigation control unit (address 37) cannot be reached via diagnosis.

-

In the open circuit diagnosis, the navigation is shown as inoperative (no response from unit).

-

The navigation DVD cannot be ejected.

-

After a terminal 30 reset of the navigation control unit, the system works again.

Technical Background

Communication malfunction in the navigation's firmware (internal software).

Production Solution

Improved firmware 1.98 for the navigation control unit.

Service

The firmware of the navigation drive has to be updated if the version is below 1.98.

1. Reset the navigation control unit (remove fuse or unplug connector) to establish tester communication.

TIP:  

During the update process, a stable power supply is necessary. Ignoring this can lead to hardware failure.
