Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair

Steering System, Bleeding after Reconstructing

After steering system reconstruction, the system must be bled differently depending on the extent of the reconstruction.

Bleeding after Replacing the Entire Steering System or Replacing Steering Gear

Fill the power steering reservoir completely.

Raise the vehicle until all the wheels are off the ground.

Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock 10 times, with the engine switched off.

Fill the power steering reservoir completely.

Briefly the start engine (Max. 2 seconds).

The pump must not draw in any air. The steering wheel must not be turned under any circumstances.

Approximately 30 seconds, wait between individual engine starts.

Inspect the fluid level and top off as needed.

-

Repeat this process until the fluid level remains constant.

Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock 10 times, with the engine switched off.

Inspect the fluid level and top off as needed.

Start the engine.

Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock 10 times.

Inspect the fluid level and top off as needed.

Any air in remaining in the steering system will dissipate by itself when driving over the next 10 to 20 km.

Bleeding, other

Inspect the fluid level and top off as needed.

Briefly start the engine (Max. 2 seconds).
