Camshaft: Service and Repair
Camshaft, removing and installing
Note: The following information describes removal and installation on the basis of the Right cylinder head.
Removing

Remove engine.

Set down engine/transmission assembly on workbench or trolley and secure in position with wooden blocks.
Attention:

Engine/transmission assembly must be secure to avoid risk of accident.

Never set down engine and transmission on sump or oil pan.

Remove timing chains from camshafts.

Remove camshaft adjustment solenoid valve housing (arrows).
-
Unscrew bearing caps 1, E3, E5, A3 and A5.

Remove oil deflector (arrow).
-
Alternately and diagonally loosen and remove bearing caps E2, E4, A2 and A4 of intake and exhaust camshaft.

Remove intake and exhaust camshaft.
Installing

Crankshaft fixed in TDC position with 3242
Note: Replace bolts tightened by turning through a specified angle as well as oil seals and gaskets.

Insert camshafts in TDC position in cylinder head.

Slots (arrows) at front of camshafts must be parallel to and on a level with top edge of cylinder head
