Fluid - Transfer Case: Service and Repair
Gear Oil In Transfer Case, Changing or Topping Up After Repair

Gear oil in transfer case, changing or topping up after repair
Special tools and equipment

VAG 1306 Drip tray
^
Remove right catalytic converter from rear exhaust system and press rear of catalytic converter toward right.
Drain gear oil

Place VAG 1306 drip tray underneath.

Remove drain plug (arrow A) and drain gear oil.
^
Install drain plug (arrow A) again.
Note: Always replace drain plug.
Fill up gear oil

Remove check screw (arrow
^
Fill up gear oil. Specification and capacity.
^
Re-install check screw (arrow -B-).
^
Perform a short road test and then check gear oil in transfer case and if necessary, top up
Note: It is only sure that the newly filled gear oil has penetrated into the Torsen differential after a short road test
Tightening torques
Check screw M 18 in transfer case housing ................................................................................................................................................................ 35 Nm
