Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair
Without Pressure Bleeder

WARNING:

Brake Fluid is poisonous

^

It must never be extracted using suction by mouth either directly or through a hose

^

If brake fluid makes contact with skin or eyes, flush or wash adequately to prevent irritation, then seek medical attention if necessary.

CAUTION:

^

Use only fresh brake fluid conforming ti U.S. standard FMVSS 116 DOT 4.

Brake fluid is caustic and corrosive, it must not be allowed to come in contact with any painted surfaces.

^

Brake fluid is hydroscopic, in other words, it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air and should therefore always be kept in airtight containers.

Do not allow brake fluid to become contaminated with mineral oil (oil, fuel or cleaning fluids). Mineral Oil can damage the sealing components of
the brake system.

Brake fluid must be disposed of properly.

NOTE:  This method should only be used if a suitable pressure bleeding device is not available.

Procedure

1. Use a suitable fluid extractor to remove as much brake fluid as possible from the reservoir, then fill reservoir with fresh brake fluid
2. Install suitable bleeder catch bottle on the bleeder screw of the right rear brake.
3. Open bleeder screw, the pump brake pedal until fresh clean fluid appears, then close bleed screw.
4. Repeat the above steps on the remaining bleeders in the following sequence

Right Front

-

Left Front

CAUTION:  Do not allow reservoir to become empty during this procedure, air may be introduced into brake system

5. Return bleeder catch bottle to right rear, then pump brake pedal to build up brake system pressure, then hold.
6. Open the bleeder screw while pedal is depressed and held, then close bleeder screw.
7. Repeat until brake fluid running out of brake system is free of bubbles.

Catch the discharged fluid with the bleeder catch bottle.

Do not reuse discharged brake fluid.

8. Repeat the above steps on the remaining bleeders in the following sequence

Left Rear

Right Front

-

Left Front
