Crankshaft: Service and Repair
NOTE: Always replace gaskets and seals.

Main bearing cap bolts

Always replace

Tightening torque: 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.) plus 1/2 turn (180°)

Identification marking "1" faces oil pump

Connecting rod bearing cap bolts

Always replace

Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) plus 1/2 turn (180°).

Measuring radial clearance: tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.), but DO NOT tighten further

Connecting rod bearing shells

Never interchange used connecting rod bearing shells

Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)

Thrust washers

Installed only at 4th crankshaft main bearing

Checking crankshaft axial clearance, refer to Procedures. See: Testing and Inspection

Tightening torque: 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.) plus 1/4 turn (90°)
CAUTION: Bolts are different from those used to mount the flywheel for a manual transmission vehicle.
