Requirements:
Vehicle standing on level ground
Parking brake applied
Selector lever in "P" (Park) position
Engine running at idle

Checking:

When cold, ATF level must be up to 20°C mark.
Warm ATF up to normal operating temperature (approx. 60°C or 140°F).
Operating temperature is checked using VAG 1551 scan tool "Read Measuring Value Block" function 08.
Check ATF level again and top up or extract as necessary. ATF must be between "Min." and "Max." markings.

CAUTION:  Do not overfill!  Excess ATF causes operating malfunctions and must always be extracted. ATF can be extracted with probe
VAG1358 A/1 and VAG1358 A.

Replacing ATF Or Filling After Repairs:

CAUTION:  Only ATF with the "Dexron" designation may be used. DO NOT use any additives.

Pour in ATF using funnel.
Quanity for inital re-fill: 3.0L (3.2 qts)
Start engine.
With vehicle stationary, shift through all transmission selector lever positions one time.
Check ATF level.
Use only a lint-free cloth for wiping the dipstick.

Caution:  Insufficient or excessive ATF affects proper operation of the transmission. It is therefore essential to regularly check the ATF level.

The ATF level changes with the ATF temperature. The Min. and Max. marks on the dipstick are valid when ATF temperature is approx 60°C (140°F)
