12. Hex nut

Adjusting wheel bearing play, refer to Fig. 3, below.
13. Slotted cap

Install on hex nut
14. Cotter pin

Always replace
15. Grease cap

Removing, refer to Fig. 1, below.

Driving on, refer to Fig. 2, below.

Always replace if damaged

First drive grease cap off slightly with light hammer taps on claws of special tool.
NOTE: Always replace damaged grease caps.

Damaged grease caps permit penetration of moisture.

The tool shown must be used to install the cap damage.

Damaged grease caps have to be replaced.

Wheel bearing play is correct when the thrust washer can just be moved with a screwdriver using finger pressure only (not by prying).

To re-adjust, tighten hex nut while turning wheel by hand to prevent over-stressing wheel bearing.

Secure with slotted cap and new cotter pin.
