Fuel Pump Delivery

FUEL PUMP DELIVERY - CHECKING

The quantity of fuel delivered by the fuel pump through the system can be measured with the pressure gauge or by measuring fuel quantity directly.

Pressure gauge test:

Connect pressure gauge.
Set gauge lever in closed position.
Hold injectors in container (to prevent engine flooding).
Operate fuel pump, see Fuel Pump Relay.

Note: disconnect electrical connections on control pressure regulator and auxiliary air regulator, so that these units will not heat up.

Hold sensor plate in fully open position for about four seconds.
System pressure should not drop more than 0.3 bar.

Quantity test:

Disconnect return line at fuel distributor.
Place return line in measuring container(Minimum of one quart capacity).
Operate pump for exactly 30 seconds.
Delivery quantity should be at least 750 cc (3/4 quart) old style pump (wires attached with push on connectors) 900 cc (9/10 quart) new style
pump (wires attached with nuts).

If fuel-pump delivery is not correct, check for clogged fuel lines, fuel filter; or fuel tank screen, and check voltage at fuel pump with fuel pump
running (should be at least 11.5 volts). If evidence of fuel contamination is found check the evaporative emission system. If everything is O.K. replace
