Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
‹› Adapter (VAS 5234/1A)
‹› Brake filler/bleeder unit (VAS 5234)
‹› Sealing plugs repair kit, Part no. (1H0 698 311 A)

Switch the engine off.

Press the brake pedal until there is no more brake assistance - " pump the brake booster empty". The brake pedal becomes hard.

Separate the brake pedal from brake booster. Refer to => [ Brake Pedal and Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting ] See: Brake Pedal

Remove the luggage compartment liner in the front area of the luggage compartment.

Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to => [ Brake System Vacuum Pump ] See: Vacuum Pump/Service and Repair/Brake System Vacuum Pump.

Release and disconnect the connector on the ABS control module (J104) - 1 -.
‹› Make sure that no brake fluid enters control module connector housing. This could lead to corrosion of the contacts and thereby cause the system
to fail.
‹› A contaminated connector housing must be carefully cleaned with compressed air.

To protect against escaping brake fluid, place a lint-free rag in the area under the control module and ABS Hydraulic Unit (N55).

Mark the brake lines for installation later.

Remove the brake lines from the ABS hydraulic unit - arrow -.
