Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Hot Air Gun (VAS 1978/14A) with the Shrink Tip for Hot Air Gun (VAS 1978/15A) from the Wiring Harness Repair Kit (VAS 1978B)
‹› Small Commercially Available Locking Pliers (vise grips)
‹› The engine control module - 1 - is bolted to a metal retainer - 5 -. To make removing the shear bolts - 4 - for the retaining tabs - 2 - more difficult,
the threads are coated with locking compound.
‹› The metal retainer must be removed in order to disconnect the connectors from the engine control module, for example to connect the test box or
replace the module.
Removing

If the engine control module is replaced, select guided functions on the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B) and then
replace engine control module.

Turn the ignition and remove the ignition key.

Install the protective body covers. Refer to => [ Protective Body Covers, Installing ] See: Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Service and
Repair/Procedures.
