Condition

The "Tire pressure too low" warning is illuminated in the IP cluster, but the tire pressure is correct.

Technical Background

The wheels or tires may have been changed or replaced recently.

Service

1. Using the Vehicle Self Diagnosis function of the 5051B, access address word 65 (Tire Pressure Monitoring). Sensor IDs that are learned to the vehicle
are stored in Measured Value Blocks 40, 41 and 42.

2. Record the tire pressure sensor IDs shown in MVB 40, 41 and 42 by saving them in the diagnostic log. This will enable you to attach it to the TAC
ticket, if needed.

Tip: If the customer uses only one set of wheels and tires, there should be four sensor IDs listed in MVBs 40, 41 and 42. If the customer uses more than
one set of wheels and tires, there may be as many as eight sensor IDs stored.

3. Ensure there are no spare sensors (for example, a loose sensor on a tool cart from a previous repair) within a few feet of the location you are testing.

Tip: If the tested sensor is no longer broadcasting a signal, the tester may read a nearby sensor.

4. Ensure the BRT-DBL4 is set to display the sensor ID in decimal form. (To do this, from the Main Menu, select Settings. Under the TPM ID: option,
be sure Dec is selected.)

5. Using the BRT-DBL4 tire pressure sensor tester, choose menu options Audi Vehicles >> All Models >> R8 and 2008+. The tester should then display
the part number that is expected to be installed on the vehicle.

6. Hold the tester within two inches of a valve stem and press the TEST button. The tester screen will display the ID number of the sensor installed to the
interior side of that valve stem.

7. Test all four locations.

8. Compare the sensor IDs displayed by the BRT-DBL4 to those stored in MVBs 40, 41 and 42.

^ If an ID displayed by the BRT-DBL4 has not been stored in MVBs 40, 41 and 42, the TPMS module has not learned that sensor to the vehicle. Follow

the directions in Guided Fault Finding to perform a sensor adaptation.

^ If the installed sensors match MVBs 40, 41 and 42, further diagnosis is required. Follow the Guided Fault Finding test plan.

9. Be sure the tires are properly inflated prior to returning the vehicle to the customer. Consult the tire pressure label on the B-pillar or the Owner's
Manual for appropriate tire pressures.
