Heated Rear Window, Checking

‹› There is a condition which will not let the Heated Rear Window (Z1) switch on. Short circuit in the rear window connector, open circuit in the

voltage supply to the Climatronic Control Module (J255) etc. The Climatronic control module has stored this as a fault. Check using Vehicle
diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051/ under "Guided Fault Finding".

‹› If the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module (J519) voltage measured at terminal 30 falls below a value stored in the vehicle electrical system

control module, the rear window heater is switched off completely (or the output is reduced) to reduce the load on the generator (the Climatronic
control module reduces the activation duty cycle from 100% to 90 - 0%). Check using Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS
5051/ under "Guided Fault Finding".

‹› If the heated rear window must be switched off due to low voltage, the window heater lamp button in the Climatronic control module stays on. If

the shut-off period last longer than approximately 150 seconds, the Climatronic control module switches the lamp off.

‹› The Climatronic control module measured values shows that the rear window heater is switched on or why it was not activated even though there

was a request. Check using Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051/ under "Guided Fault Finding".

‹› The function test for the heated rear window control is described under " Guided Fault Finding " for the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module

(the heated rear window is controlled via the Rear Window Defogger Relay (J9) by the vehicle electrical system control module). Check using
Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051/ under "Guided Fault Finding" and.

‹› The heated rear window stays switched on at outside temperatures up to 0° C until ignition is switched off (heated rear window can be switched

manually at anytime). If temperature becomes greater than 0° C during a driving period, the heated rear window is switched off after the operating
time stored in the Climatronic control module has elapsed (approximately 10 minutes).

‹› Once the operated time (approximately 10 minutes) stored in the Climatronic control module has elapsed, the heated rear window can be switched

off automatically by the Climatronic control module when the exterior temperature is greater than 0° C (activation time depends on the code and
the Climatronic control module version). Check using Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051/ under "Guided Fault
Finding".
