Test in vehicles starting with VIN "400000" of model year 2005 (in the Sedan and Avant) and "0129123" of model year 2005 (Cabrio).

Measure the voltage between jack "12" (terminal " 30") and jack "13" (ground connection) of the test box. 

‹› Target value: Approx. battery voltage

-

Measure the resistance between contact "6" at connector -  F - and jack "13" (ground connection) of the test box. 

‹› Target value: Resistance approx. 10....100 ohms (ohms)

‹› Since resistances less than 10 ohms cannot be measured with sufficient exactness using workshop tools, a short circuit in the wire connection or

the heated rear window (Z1) cannot be determined. 

‹› If the resistance is too great, check the wire connections to the heated rear window (Z1) for open circuit and introduce corrective measures.

Connect connectors - D - and - F - to the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head (all connectors are now connected to the
Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head).

-

Set the "multimeter, voltage measurement (20 V =)" operating mode in the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A).

‹› All connections on the Climatronic control module ( J255) A/C control head must be attached.

‹› Measure the voltage between contact "6" at connector -  F - and jack "13" (ground connection) of the test box. 

‹› Target value: Voltage less than 2 V

Start the engine.

-

Switch on the heated rear window on the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head (the indicator lamp in the button illuminates).

‹› Target value: The voltage changes from approx. 0 V to approx. battery voltage (and the rear window defogger relay (J9) switches the heated rear

window (Z1) on.  ) 

‹› To check the activation of the rear window defogger, you can, for example, place a hand on the area of the rear window with the heating wires; the

heating wires must become warm.

Wait approx. 12 minutes.

‹› Target value: The display changes from approx. battery voltage to less than 2 V (the indicator lamp in the button goes out)

‹› The heated rear window (Z1) stays switched on at outside temperatures less than 0°C until the ignition is switched off (heated rear window can be

switched off manually at anytime). If the temperature becomes greater than 0°C during a driving period, the heated rear window shuts off after the
operating time stored in the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head has elapsed (approximately 12 minutes).

‹› With outside temperatures greater than 0 °C the heated rear window is switched off automatically by A/C control head Climatronic Control

Module (J255) after the programmed operating time (approximately 12 minutes) in A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255) has
elapsed.

Heated Seats, Checking

‹› If the voltage measured by the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head at terminal "30" is less than 12.3 V, the heated rear window

output is reduced and the load on the generator is relieved (the electronics of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head reduces the
duty cycle of the activation from 100% to 90....10%).

‹›  Test box (V.A.G 1598A) and associated adapter cable (V.A.G 1598/11) and adapter cable (V.A.G 1598/12)

‹› Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051A) with multimeter leads (VAS 5051/7)

‹› Connector test set (V.A.G 1594C)

Switch the ignition off.
