Engine Control Module 1, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Heat gun.

‹› The Engine Control Module (ECM) (J623) -  1 - is bolted to a protective housing - 5 -. To make removing the shear bolts - 4 - for the retaining

tabs -  2 - more difficult, the threads are coated with locking compound. 

‹› To disconnect the electrical connectors from the Engine Control Module (ECM) (J623) (e.g. to connect the test box or to replace the ECM), the

protective housing must be removed.

Removal

-

Remove the rubber seal from the plenum chamber cover in the direction of the - arrow -.

-

Remove the plenum chamber cover - 1 -.

-

 Using a screwdriver, remove the wiper arm nut covers -  3 -.

-

Loosen the wiper arm nuts - 4 - by several turns. 

‹› If wiper arms cannot be removed from the wiper axles, use a commercially available puller.

-

Loosen the wiper arms - 2 - from the wiper axle by rocking up and down.
