Connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 between socket 1 of connector and engine Ground.

Operate starter.
Diode test lamp must light
If diode test lamp does not light:

Check for continuity in wiring from socket 1 via fuse to fuel pump relay and repair if necessary.

If wiring is OK, check fuel pump relay See: Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Fuel Pump/Fuel Pump Relay/Testing and Inspection.
If diode test lamp lights, check actuation.
Checking actuation of EVAP canister purge regulator valve

Connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 between sockets 1 (positive) and 2 of connector.

Start final control diagnosis and select EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-. See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and
Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Final Control Diagnosis (Function 03)
Diode test lamp must flash.
If the diode test lamp does not flash or is constantly lit:

Check wiring to engine control module.

Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 at wiring harness to engine control module. Actual engine control module is not to be connected. See: Computers

If diode test lamp is constantly lit:
