Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness connectors, Engine Control Module (ECM) is not connected. Connect Ground (GND) clip at
test box to Ground (not visible in illustration).  See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic
Trouble Codes/Scan Tool Connecting/Test Box, Connecting For Wiring and Component Test

CAUTION:  To avoid damaging electronic components, set measuring range before connecting test leads and observe all test requirements.

Check following wiring connection for open circuit and short circuit to Ground (GND) and B+:

3-socket relay carrier in

electronics box, plenum,
chamber position 2terminal

Repair wiring connection if necessary.

If no malfunctions are detected:

-

Replace Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Relay -J299-.

Remove quick-release screws - 1 -, remove screws - 2 - and remove sound insulation.
