Removing
-
Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
-
Remove seat:
-
Normal seat: Vehicles as of 11.04
-
Power seat: Vehicles as of 11.04
-
Recaro seat
-
Attach Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136 on Engine and Transmission Holder VAS 6095.
-
Secure front seat on Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136.
-
Remove backrest panel:
-
Normal seat: Vehicles as of 11.04
-
Power seat: Vehicles as of 11.04
-
Recaro seat
-
Using a screwdriver, pry out lower grip channels - 9 - (3x).
-
Using a screwdriver, pry out side grip channel - 1 - and fold over cover to the front.
-
Cut upholstery clips -10 - (4x) on protective cover for side airbag - 6 -.
-
Press down locking mechanism - 3 - and disconnect harness connector side airbag - 2 -.
-
Remove bolt - 7 -.
-
Drill out rivet - 5 -.
-
Press side airbag - 4 - upward and remove it.
-
Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:
-
Hook in side airbag - 4 - to backrest frame.
-
Press down side airbag - 4 - as far as possible.
-
Set ground strap eyelet -11. between backrest frame and side airbag - 4 -.
-
Secure Ground (GND) cable -11. with a rivet.
-
Replace bolt - 7 -.
-
Tighten side airbag - 4 - with bolt - 7 -.
-
Make sure that airbag cable -13. runs through cable guide -14. and is secured to backrest frame by a clip -12
-
Upholstery Clip Pliers V.A.G 1634 is required to install new upholstery clips on protective cover for side airbag.
-
Switch ignition on.
CAUTION: No person may be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
-
Connect battery Ground (GND) strap.
NOTE:
-
Observe safety precautions after connecting battery.
-
If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) K75 signals a malfunction after installation, DTC memory must be checked, erased and once
again checked using Diagnostic Operating System VAS 5051 A.

Tightening torque 10 Nm

Always replace after removal
