Final Drive, Differential (01VA Transmission)

Final Drive/Transmission Housing Shaft Seal, Replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Drip tray (V.A.G 1306)

‹› Extractor lever (VW 681)

‹› Thrust piece (T10139)

Conditions

‹› Transmission removed.

‹› Transmission attached to assembly stand. Refer to => [ Transmission, Securing to Assembly Stand ] See: Service and

Repair/Procedures/Transmission, Securing to Assembly Stand.

CAUTION!
Do not place the transmission on the oil pan.

Procedure

‹› A faulty shaft seal will allow gear oil to enter the torque converter bell housing.

Conditions.

Remove right transmission support. Refer to => [ Left and Right Transmission Mount and Transmission Support ] See: Transmission
Mount/Service and Repair.

Place drip tray (V.A.G 1306) underneath transmission.

Remove right flange shaft. Refer to => [ Right Flange Shaft ] See: Front Final Drive, Automatic Transaxle/Differential Output Shaft/Service and
Repair/Final Drive, Differential (09LA Transmission)/Right Flange Shaft.

Remove final drive cover bolts in - 11 to 1 - sequence and remove cover together with tapered roller bearing outer race and shim. 

‹› The shim must be the correct size and must not be replaced by a shim with a different thickness.

Remove differential.
