Hall Sender Alignment
-
With engine on TDC cylinder #1:
^
Marking on the shudder wheel must align with marking on the edge of housing.
^
Harness connector must point toward back of engine.
If the marks do not align.
-
Loosen housing base clamp and turn so that marks match and retighten.
If position of harness connector varies considerably.
-
Remove housing from engine and rotate shaft so that harness connector faces the rear and Hall sensor marks match after reinstallation.
Checking and Adjusting Axial Play of Camshaft Position Sensor
-
Check by slightly turning rotor cowl by hand, noting whether CMP sensor shaft is easy to move.
^
Radial play must be perceptible in drive
If CMP sensor shaft sticks:
-
Remove CMP sensor and install two seals, or if necessary a maximum of three, between distributor housing and cylinder head.
-
During this procedure, check axial play of the CMP sensor.
^
Axial play must be 0.3 mm (0.012 in.) maximum
If axial play is greater:
-
Replace Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor.
If there is a lot of play in the drive:
-
Check the drive pinion teeth.
If the drive pinion teeth are damaged or sheared off, perform the following tests:
-
Check intake camshaft drive chain for non-permissible elongation.
-
Check toothed belt tension, adjust if necessary.
-
Check crankshaft front vibration damper for cracks or deformation of rubber insert, if necessary replace vibration damper.
