Instrument Panel

Removing

-

Move the steering wheel as far down as possible using the whole steering column adjusting range.

-

Move the seat all the way back and adjust the backrest to a 45° angle.

CAUTION!
‹› Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.

‹› Follow the allocation of the airbag to the instrument panel.

-

Switch the ignition on.

-

Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. 

-

Remove the driver airbag.

-

Remove steering wheel.

-

Remove the instrument cluster gap cover. Refer to => [ Instrument Cluster Gap Cover ] See: Utility Storage Compartment/Service and
Repair/Storage Compartments and Covers.

-

Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to => [ Driver Side Instrument Panel Cover ] See: Utility Storage Compartment/Service and
Repair/Storage Compartments and Covers.

-

Disconnect the light switch electrical connector.

-

Versions with headlamp range control: Disconnect the electrical connector on the Headlamp Adjuster (E102).

-

Remove the side instrument panel vent. Refer to => [ Side Instrument Panel Vent ].  See: Side Instrument Panel Vent

-

Remove the MMI screen cover. Refer to => [ MMI Screen ].  See: MMI Screen

-

Remove the MMI screen. 

-

Remove the instrument cluster.

-

Disconnect the electrical connector on the access/start authorization switch.

-

Remove the center instrument panel vent. Refer to => [ Center Instrument Panel Vent ].  See: Center Instrument Panel Vent

-

Remove the radio/navigation system. 

-

Remove the Climatronic Control Module (J255).

-

Remove the Front Information Display Control Head Module (J523).

-

Remove center console. Refer to => [ Center Console ] See: Console/Service and Repair/Center Console. 

-

Remove glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] See: Utility Storage Compartment/Service and Repair/Storage Compartments
and Covers. 

CAUTION!
Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. disconnecting the electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static
electricity ". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

Disconnect the passenger airbag electrical connector. Refer to => [ Front Passenger Airbag Igniter 1 and 2 ] See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag

-

Versions with a speaker: Remove the center mid-range speaker in the instrument panel.
