1. Confirm the fluid is not from the sports differential by the absence of the strong odor which is characteristic of differential fluid.

Joint, use great care removing the protective cap. If the cap is undamaged after removal, it can be reused to repair the axle shaft. If the protective cap is
damaged during removal, a new cap must be installed when repairing the axle in the following step.
3. Be sure the sealing surfaces are clean and dry. Apply the sealer (Part No. D 454 300 A2) with a diameter of 4 - 5 mm on the new protective cap.
