Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Operation

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K83-, function

If exhaust-related malfunctions are recognized by the engine control module these are indicated by switching on the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
-K83-.

NOTE:  When switched on, the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) -K83- may flash or illuminate constantly. In any case the Diagnostic Trouble Code
(DTC) memory must be checked.

Flashing of MIL -K83-

A malfunction is present which under these driving conditions will cause damage to the catalytic converter. In this case continue driving with
reduced power only (until MIL goes out or illuminates continuously) and eliminate the malfunction as quickly as possible!

Continuous illumination of malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) -K83-

A malfunction is present which causes deterioration of the exhaust emission. Check DTC memory for engine control module or automatic
transmission.

If there is a performance problem or a customer complaint and the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) -K83- does not illuminate, check DTC
memory after function test of malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) -K83- as DTCs may have been stored which do not switch on the MIL
immediately.

Functional check:

-

Switch on ignition 

The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) -K83- must illuminate.

If malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) -K83- does not illuminate, check DTC memory.
