Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Special Screwdriver T8 (T40056 A)

Removing

‹› Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring (F138) must be installed and removed in center position (wheels straight). 

CAUTION!
Observe the safety precautions for repairs on airbags.

Switch on ignition.

‹› To remove the airbag, battery must be disconnected with the ignition switched on, this deviates from the description "disconnecting and

connecting battery".

Remove luggage compartment floor trim.

Disconnect battery ground strap - arrow -.

Remove driver side airbag unit => [ Driver Airbag Igniters ]. See: Air Bag/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Driver Airbag,

Remove steering wheel => [ Steering Wheel ]. See: Air Bag/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Driver Airbag, Servicing/Steering
Wheel

On vehicles with electrically adjustable steering columns, remove lower driver side instrument panel cover => [ Lower Driver Side Instrument
Panel Cover ] See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Utility Storage Compartment/Service and Repair/Storage Compartments and Covers

If the old T8 Screwdriver (T40056) is still on hand, grind around at places marked with - arrows -.
