Condition

Grunting noise while downshifting from 6th to 3rd gear on hard acceleration.

This noise is usually noticed when changing down from 6th to 3rd but can also be noticed on a 5th to 4th downshift.

The noise is sporadic, as it depends on factors such as engine speed, vehicle speed and load.

Technical Background

Grunting noise when changing down from 6th to 3rd or 5th to 4th due to manufacturing tolerances in clutch A and B.

This condition does not affect vehicle control.

Production Solution

Optimized software to improve gear changing.

Service

1. Try to reproduce the customer complaint so that it can be clearly assigned to this TSB.

As the concern is sporadic, try to obtain from the customer at what temperature the concern occurs. Try to duplicate the conditions.

If the concern has been duplicated, perform the following checks.

2. Check the ATF level according to the repair manual.

Note:

Using the wrong ATF may cause transmission malfunctions or failure. Only use the ATF available as a replacement part for the planetary gearing in
automatic transmission 09E.
