Press flange shaft out of self-locking center differential cover using Punch VW 409.

Place cover on thrust plates VW 401 and VW 402 

Note:

Hold flange shaft - A - with one hand to prevent it from falling.

Remove flange shaft.

Note:

To do so, place e.g. a pry bar - A - beneath to prevent damage to housing. 

Installing 

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note this: 

Installing shaft seal:

The two-piece Pressure Application Device T10136 is used to install the shaft seal.

Place self-locking center differential cover - A - on thrust plate of Pressure Application Device T10136
