Remove bolts - 1 through 5 - and remove rear transmission mount.

Note:

The tunnel cross member remains in the vehicle.

Remove bolts - arrows - and remove transmission support.

Note: 
^

The cover has no oil drain plug, so the gear oil can only be drained by removing cover.

-

Place old oil collecting and extracting device V.A.G. 1782 beneath transmission.

CAUTION!
The self-locking center differential can fall out the transmission when its cover is removed.

Loosen bolts - arrows - on self-locking center differential cover in a diagonal sequence and remove them.

-

Allow escaping axle oil to drain into Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device V.A.G. 1782.

-

Slowly and carefully pull cover off transmission along with self-locking center differential.
