Remove Test Box and adapter cable.

Re-connect ECM to vehicle wiring harness.
2-Pin Connector

Connect LED tester to terminals 1 and 2 of EVAP canister purge regulator valve harness connector.

Initiate Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM). Refer to On-Board Diagnostics. See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection

LED tester must blink when valve is activated.
If NO:
-
Connect Test Box to Engine Control Module (ECM) wiring harness using VAG 1598/5 adapter cable. Refer to VAG 1598 Pin Out Box
Connecting See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Scan Tool Testing/Scan Tool
Connecting and Initial Checks/Connecting and Testing VAG 1598 Pin Out Box.

ECM remains disconnected.
If LED tester lights up continuously:

Check wiring (using wiring diagram) between terminal 1 of EVAP canister purge regulator valve harness and Test Box terminal 5 for short
circuit to GND.
If LED tester does NOT blink:
Engine Control Module Harness Connector

Check continuity (using wiring diagram) between terminal 1 of EVAP canister purge regulator valve harness connector, and Test Box terminal
5.

Must be 1.0 ohm maximum.
If circuit is grounded or open between terminal 1 of EVAP canister purge regulator valve connector, and terminal 5 of ECM connector:

Repair as necessary.
If circuit is OK:
-
Replace ECM.
