Thermostat: Service and Repair
Coolant thermostat, checking, removing and installing
Note: Always replace seals and gaskets.
Removing

Drain coolant system. See: Service and Repair
Vehicles with air conditioning:
WARNING! The air conditioning refrigerant circuit must not be opened.

Unbolt front engine cover support from intake manifold.

Detach retainers for refrigerant hoses.

Unbolt A/C compressor, lift clear together with refrigerant hoses (do not disconnect) and tie in place on hood lock.
All vehicles:

Disconnect coolant hose from connection -3-.

Unscrew bolts -4- and remove connection, O-ring -2- and coolant thermostat
Installing

Clean and smooth down sealing surface for O - ring as required.

Insert coolant thermostat.
-
Installation position: bowed metal strip on thermostat must be vertical.

Moisten new O ring with coolant G 012 AS D.

Tighten bolts.
-
Fill up with coolant. See: Service and Repair
Tightening torque
Connection to cylinder block: 15 Nm
