Information Bus: Component Tests and General Diagnostics
Data Exchange, Motronic / ABS (CAN - Bus), Checking

Check DTC memory of ABS control module (w/EDL).

If there is a DTC related to the CAN - bus/data - bus power train stored:

Connect VAG 1598/31 test box at wiring harness to ECM, do not connect ECM.

Check the following wire connections for open circuit and short circuit to Ground and B+:

Test box  VAG 1598/31 socket

ABS control module(w/EDL) -J104- or Data bus capable system terminals

Repair open circuit or short circuit if necessary.

If wire connection is OK:

Replace ABS control module or Engine Control Module (ECM) as a test.
