Seat Belt Tensioner: Service Precautions

Safety Precautions For Handling Pyrotechnic Belt Tensioners

The safety precautions listed here may be updated if necessary and should always be re-read before performing repair work.

Testing, removing, installing and repair work may only be performed by qualified personnel.

-

When connecting the belt tensioner unit, all mechanical parts (including those of the three-point seat belt) must be properly attached.

Other than the person performing the work, there should not be anyone in the vehicle.

-

Belt tensioner components may be neither opened nor repaired; always use new parts.

-

Belt tensioner units which have been dropped from a height of more than 50 cm must not be installed in a vehicle.

-

Belt tensioner units which are mechanically damaged (dents, fractures) must be replaced.

-

The belt tensioner unit should be installed immediately after removing them from their packaging.

-

If the work is interrupted, the belt tensioner unit should again be placed in its packaging.

-

Never point open end of belt tensioner at another person.

-

Always wash hands after handling belt tensioners which have been triggered.

-

Storage and transportation are subject to the legislation for explosive substances.

-

It is not permitted to leave the belt tensioner unit unattended.

-

The belt tensioner unit must not be treated with grease, cleaning or similar substances, nor may it be exposed to temperatures above 100 degrees
C, (212 degrees F), even for short periods.
