Air Filter Element: Removal and Replacement
Air Filter Insert, Removing And Installing
Removing
NOTE: When removing air filter insert, make sure no dirt enters air filter housing.

Remove air guide from Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.

Disconnect electrical harness connector from Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.

Remove screws from air filter housing and remove upper part of housing.

Remove air filter insert.
-
Cover open air filter housing with a clean cloth.
Installing
For problem-free operation of the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor it is very important to observe the following notes and procedures.
NOTE:
-
If the air filter element is very dirty or soaked, dirt particles or moisture may have contaminated the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and may be
causing false Mass Air Flow values. This leads to reduced performance, since a lower injection quantity is calculated.

Always use a genuine air filter element.

Use a lubricant (silicone-free) for installing air guide.

Secure all hose connections using hose clamps appropriate for the model type.

Clean the air filter housing (upper and lower parts) of salt residue, dirt and leaves (if necessary, clean using a vacuum).

Check the MAF sensor and intake hose (clean air side) for salt residue, dirt, and leaves.

Check the intake ducting up to the air filter element for dirt.

Make sure that air filter element is properly centered when placed into the mounting of the lower part of air filter housing.

Set the upper part of air filter housing onto lower part of air filter housing, without using much force. When doing this, make sure that the upper
part of air filter housing is not placed crooked onto the air filter element. Pay attention to the sealing lip of the air filter element (false air).

Then, fasten the upper part of air filter housing to lower part of air filter housing.

Make sure the air duct hose is securely seated on Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor.

Further installation is performed in reverse order.
